INCIDENCE OF DRUG ABUSE AMONG SELECTED SECONDARY SCHOOL ADOLESCENTS IN OGBOMOSO NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA.

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to find out some of the factors influencing drug abuse behaviour amongst secondary schools in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo state.

The population comprised five secondary schools, which were randomly selected from the mixed schools in the local government.

The sample from the population comprises two hundred and fifty158 males and 92 females.

The instrument used for the study consisted of thirty 30 items of a questionnaire focusing on the factors influencing drug abuse behaviour amongst secondary schools students in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The data collected was analysed using ttest. Four null hypothesis were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Result of findings were discussed. Recommendations and suggestion were made.

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background to the Study

Nigeria is currently batting with the issue of drug trafficking, which has not only reared its ugly head in our society but also which developed into a worldwide crisis. June 26 of every year has been set aside for celebration of United Nations International Day against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

Drug abuse has led to many adverse effects, which many people are ignorant of. It disrupts relationship and human potentials. It attacks physical health, alters personalities, reduces academic performances. To crown everything up, drug abuse leads to destruction of lives and properties.
