1.0 INTRODUCTION

Continuous assessment is a systematic process of accumulating comprehensive information on students for guidance purposes. This evaluation strategy was recommended in 1981 when the National policy on evaluation was made for the implementation of 6334 educational system in Nigeria.

The research focus on the importance or how positively continuous assessment has stimulated learning and teaching effectively, as well as teachers knowledge of their work.

1.2 STATEMENT OF RESEARCH PROBLEM

The national policy on education indicates that, the implementation of continuous assessment is fraught with problems both for the educational system in general and the teachers in particular thus include;

a. Teachers in the system are trained but do not implement the policy with desirable enthusiasm.

b. Teachers at primary levels do not access pupils in the three domains of learning as required.

c. The pupils on the other hand are not committed to continuous assessment and may fail.

The above identified problems have presented a major problem to the teachers in primary schools in Konshisha local government.
