CHAPTER THREE

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

In the pursuance of the objectives of this study, this chapter is devoted to the procedural pattern of techniques used in gathering relevant data and information on the research work.

3.1RESEARCH DESIGN

The choice of the survey as the research design for the project was necessitated by the nature of the study. This research is a survey research that gathered data from members of the selected population with the aid of the Questionnaire in order to determine the current status of the issue under study from the respective institutions.

3.2AREAS OF THE STUDY

Area of the study is referred to as the geographical area where the study is undertaken. In order to achieve the objective of the study impact of information communication technology on Nigerian Bank performance, First Bank PLC, Ogun was selected for the purpose of the accuracy, effectives and convenience

3.3POPULATION OF THE STUDY

According to Olasunkanmi 1986, population is the totality of all elements subject or members that possesses a specified set of one or more common characteristics or features. In this study, research population refers to all the entire staff of First bank Nigeria PLC, Ife, Ogun. With a total number of 54 staff work force

3.4SAMPLE AND SAMPLING PROCEDURE TECHNIQUE

The sample size n for the number of questionnaires distribution in the organization was determined using the Yaro Yamani Formula to determine sample size as quoted in Afonya 1982

3.5INSTRUMENT FOR DATA COLLECTION

The main research instrument used for the research was the Questionnaire designed by the researcher. The choice of this instrument was prompted by its reliability and validity of the answers.

This is so because the interaction between the researcher and the respondents, which could bias the responses to the questions in the questionnaire, is minimal.

3.6VALIDATION OF THE INSTRUMENT

Instrument validity refers to the method of determining the extent the instrument measures what it purports to measure. In order to validate the instrument, the questionnaire were first vetted by the academic adviser and all his recommendations and corrections were affected. In order to further validate the instrument, the questionnaire were applied on a pilot study of first bank Nigeria Plc Ife, Ogun.

The interview question was equally vetted by the adviser before being administered. Inconsistencies discovered were corrected.

3.7RELIABILITY OF THE INSTRUMENT

Reliability is a test of the degree of consistency of responses collected by the use of the instrument. To test the reliability of the responses to the pilot study were compared to the responses from the main study. The two were consistent. We therefore, conclude that the instrument was reliable.

3.8METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION

We have collected out data through primary and secondary sources.

3.8.1 PRIMARY SOURCE OF DATA COLLECTION

In the primary source of data collections, the following methods have been applied.

i. Questionnaire.

ii. Observation

Questionnaires were printed out and distributed to the staffs of First bank Nigeria Plc, Ife, Ogun. This method is a secured one out of all the method of data collection. The researcher felt that the use of questionnaire would see the best way to gather adequate information for the research work.

Observation was used in order to present a meaningful project work.

3.8.2 SECONDARY METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION

The researcher sourced for information from related and relevant sources which include textbooks, magazines, internet, and newspapers in both private and academic libraries including caf.

The secondary method includes the extraction of data from:

i.Textbooks

ii.Journals

iii. Bulletin and

iv. Newspapers

3.9METHOD OF DATA ANALYSIS

Data were collected through the instrumentality of the administered copies of questionnaire. These data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science SPSS. This tool SPSS gave a clearer representation of the research method used in collecting data. The data were presented in tables, percentages, histograms and charts.
