INTRODUCTION

Exploration of Indigenous Images in Visual Communication Design has become very relevant in our contemporary situation. Apart from its relevance for modern graphic and artistic expression and documentation for future references, studying the impacts of modern artistic tendencies in Nigerian visual arts practices will give us understanding of the neocolonial syndrome and the incipient cultural and artistic crisis beclouding Visual Communication Design; especially since the emergence of computer aided design.

Exploring new ways of expressing various aspects of life, gives limitless opportunities to the graphic artists to create great arts as characterized by the art of contemporary creative current the most popular approach for artistic expression in visual arts. Restoring and rediscovering creative ingenuity and originality of artistic expression will ignite a concept that embodies African community consciousness and solidarity in visual communication design. A definitive approach based on primary and secondary information as well as studio experimentation endeavored to restore those parts of our cultural identity that were scattered, hidden, suppressed, denied, distorted and forbidden since colonization and in the wake of information technology and the western oriented concepts in visual communication design.

Isiguzo 2005.1, in support of the above statement, states that in our struggle for identity and self discovery, we discover our story in the process and restore our fragmented parts. Individuals and communities have turned to the arts for a sense of identity and history. It is through the arts that many still find a way to selfdiscovery.
